Is this finally Capitulation for the Crypto markets?
Maybe, maybe not. Ethereum is now under $100 and Bitcoin is under $3300. Some say it is time to buy, others say we are going lower. Many are not sure. I did not think it would get this low before another run higher, not that it could not happen, but I doubted it would. We are all learning as the crypto markets march on.
In financial circles the term Capitulation is used to indicate the point in time when investors have decided to give up on trying to recapture lost gains as a result of falling stock prices. Many, especially those who bought at the highs, have already given up for sure.
Crypto companies are closing left and right. They can’t last in this market and don’t have enough capital or didn’t plan properly. Some were junk and others had some promise. Even ConsenSys, Joseph Lubin’s Ethereum company, is making changes to deal with the market conditions.
How long will this last and where does it end? Who will survive? The large companies, Coinbase, Gemini, ShapeShift, Coindesk, and others hopefully will make it through and come out stronger. If the leaders can’t survive the Crypto Winter I am not sure the rest of us can.
For those that believe in Crypto, we can keep sharing with others, and keep the faith. It is difficult to talk about Crypto, especially when the hype of last year is long gone and nobody wants to hear about it. But if history teaches us anything, it is that everything goes up and down, and the best times to buy is when others are not interested. We hear that is what Buffet does in the traditional markets, though he hates Crypto so I doubt he is buying any Bitcoin right now.
I recently wrote about some potential Crypto Christmas Gifts for this year. I am thinking we should now include boxes of tissues to ourselves on that list. At least some of us will need them to get through the day. The sadness when we think of how good we had it last Christmas will cause many to shed a tear or two.
Can we go lower? Who knows, nothing would surprise me anymore in the land of Crypto. We are still here though, those who believe, trudging along through the vast wilderness of dead and dying tokens and coins. Searching for the survivors and signs of life among the wounded and injured.
As the famous quote goes, “The darkest hour is just before the dawn.”
